Thoughts on FODMAP diet for MS? Asking for a friend on recommendation to help with MS.

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

I would avoid it, MS requires nutrients not starvation! The whole point is to bring down stress on the digestive system - since MS is closely related to gut imbalances and inflammation. Looking at gut health and running a stool test will be really helpful.

Can you share why you would avoid this type of diet? I know you don’t love diets especially long term!

I’m almost 8 months postpartum and the hair loss is really bad, I have noticed a hair on my chin and my face gets crazy red. When is the best time to get lab tested after childbirth? I would like to run all the tests with you again. Also, could you please tell me what psyllium husk brand is your favorite? Thank you, Laura.

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Hi Camelia! Oh no! You can run testing anytime - i'm assuming you got your cycle back? I use Organic India Psyullum in some of my breads!

I forgot to mention still not period and breastfeeding

I have been so sick this winter - off and on for 3 months. Had a severe type of pneumonia and later a sinus infection. I’ve unfortunately been on 4 rounds of antibiotics. Now that I’m done with that, I’m working on rebuilding pretty much everything - health, strength, etc. But feeling overwhelmed. Any suggestions?

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Oh gosh I am so sorry! 4 rounds of antibiotics!!! Sounds like your gut and immune system are very compromised! Are you in any of my courses? I do think that would be a great place to start!

I would first start with diet and re-building your microbiome after breaking it down with all the antibiotics! Get in a few servings of probiotic rich foods daily- kimchi, kefir, sauerkraut... Mix up your sources so you get an array of probiotics.

And drink bone broth daily for the immune and gut benefits!

Thank you so much! Which course would you recommend??

Does long/dark arm hair on women mean anything or is just normal/genetic? Have been asked about this many times and now curious myself (a friend was wondering if it was an indicator for PCOS or endometriosis)

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Can totally be genetic if they have had that their whole life - likely their parents are also "hairy" - if it comes on suddenly and is on their chin, accompanied by hair loss on the scalp could be a sign of a hormonal imbalance.

Good to know, thank you!!

Hey Laura. Do you have recs for a shower filter and a separate bath filter?

Tired of bathing in chemicals. Thanks!

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Yes! Shower filter I use is called Sante for health and then the bath filter is called Crystal Quest!

Recs for an online/youtube workout program. I have a rebounder, walking pad, vibration plate, and weights. I need something with a scheduled routine.

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

I dont know of any strength training type workouts but I really love Kara Duval Range app! Its like a mix of dance, yoga, and pilates! I really love it during the winter when I cant get outside for my weekly training hikes.

How to care for the body after a vasectomy (short and long term)? A friend's husband had one. She was also worried about sperm antibodies. Much appreciated 🙏🏽

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Hi Brie - is she aware of the risks of prostate cancer after vasectomy? But here is my two cents: the idea that a vasectomy is totally safe is not accurate. The testicles are a super delicate sensitive structure and are complex organs with nerve and blood and lymph supply. Anytime we intentionally interfere with the body’s natural design, there is more to consider. The male reproductive system is not separate from the rest of male physiology. Sperm production is an active biological process, and semen is not just something the body makes without purpose. It contains minerals, proteins, enzymes, immune factors, and reflects the whole body. When that pathway is intentionally blocked, the body still continues producing sperm, but now those sperm have nowhere to go, which means the body must constantly break them down and reabsorb them. That creates an immune response in many men, because sperm are recognized as foreign when they are trapped inside the body rather than released naturally. After vasectomy, many men develop anti-sperm antibodies, meaning the immune system begins reacting against sperm itself. A lot of men also report chronic pain or pressure or changes in sensation afterward or years later. I just don't think it is okay for doctors to act as though there are no physiological consequences to cutting and sealing part of a functioning reproductive system. I don't believe fertility is something to casually shut down when it is part of a healthy functioning body. The body was designed intelligently, and I think permanent intervention is never a good idea! But again, this is my two cents. There is nothing to prevent what could happen after a vasectomy! Sorry, that was really long winded lol But you get the idea!

Thank you Laura for your detailed response! I am 200% with you on this viewpoint. I think we can manage fertility/conception when we know our body and for women, track their cycles and mucus etc.

I will screenshot your response for her. Thanks again. 💜💜

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

Sure thing! It really is quite easy to understand your cycle and avoid pregnancy! I have been doing it for over a decade!

Brie-Anna Stanton's avatar

Almost 4 years here 🙋🏽‍♀️ also successful.

They're interested in getting his vasectomy reversed. I'll teach her how to read her body.

Thanks Laura, love your wisdom. 🙏🏽

Morginn's avatar

This makes total sense, unfortunately my husband had a vasectomy 12 years ago. Do you think a reversal is beneficial?

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

I think reversal def could be beneficial if you have any of the concerns above!

What plan would you give someone that wanted to get their liver running at its best??

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

I guess that depends on the person and if we are talking fatty liver disease, high ALT AST, or general liver support. I would check out the post I did on here about spring allergies! Step 1 would be eliminating any toxic offenders in your environment! We def can't support the liver and continuously put offenders in our body, it defeats the purpose. Step 2: sauna, hydration, morning sun, enough carbs and protein - the liver runs on glucose and amino acids!

Morginn's avatar

Thank you! I was referring to general liver health. I’ll check out your post. Are there any herbal remedies that help unclog the liver that would be beneficial? I’m definitely doing the steps 1 and 2 already.

The Wild + Well-Fed Journal's avatar

I actually formulated a liver/lympth herbal tincture for Wild + Well-Fed with a regenerative farm here that is coming out in a couple weeks! We are printing the labels now!
